The waters of Coiba National Park accommodate a new species of coral that has been named Pacifigorgia marviva. The designation was granted by Dr. Héctor Guzmán, scientist of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) and the STRI associate researcher Odalisca Breedy in the Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, in honor to the great work done by Marviva’s founder Erica Knie.
